Have you ever seen classical music used in children's movies, computer games or video games?
Does anyone remember " The Learning Company" ? Their name sounds pedantic, but they were hugely popular when I was a kid early to mid 90's . They pulled off that rare combo of being educational and fun a lot of lazy kids who hated reading and music still loved the games. Here are some of the games they came out with Reader RabbitTreasure Mountain Treasure Galaxy Carmen SandiegoMidnight Rescue The Logical Journey of the ZoombinisThey were the most creative games I've ever seen Treasure Galaxy was weaker than the other games but still had things like " disasteroids," and the Zoombinis is still the most innovative game I've ever played. It was full of clever logic puzzles they started off easy but got so difficult by the end that even my parents struggled with it. Midnight Rescue was probably the most popular Morty Maxwell, the Master of Mischief, was going to " destroy" the school with invisible paint you had to piece together the mystery while being hunted by evil painting robots.I'm referencing this because many of the games used classical pieces as theme songs. Treasure Galaxy had stuff from The Planets, and Treasure Mountain used a ton In the Hall of the Mountain King in the caves, Bach's Double Concerto third movement and Solfegietto throughout. There were many, many more...How do you feel about this? Do you know of other kid's media that uses classical pieces? I think it's a great idea, and I want to know how common or uncommon it is. I remember freaking out when my Russian piano teacher chose a new piece for me Solfegietto by KPE Bach. I was nine, and I freaked out when I heard it and told her it was in Treasure Mountain. She sniffed and said " You won't prrractice Beethoven and Clementi but you like theees because of a compee uter game?" Oh, Yeva...Sorry, it was Midnight Rescue that used Grieg I just looked it up. It also used The Sorcerer's ApprenticeHaha person, I figured out the twin trick too. While I don't usually like the idea of putting classical music in video games, definitely cheesy and fake , I do think it's good for kids. If I saw the music in 95 % of video games, I'd probably shudder or roll my eyes, but in those games I thought it was great...
